Our industry often puts too much focus on technology and design, but these alone won’t set you up for online success, so forget everything you’ve been told you need for a business website to give you a fat ROI, we’ve narrowed it down to just 3 things…
At the end of the day it helps to have great looking website, but there are really only three things that will make your website work better to increase sales -
Things like SEO (a technique to help you rank on the first page of Google search results), Email Marketing, Facebook advertising, paid online advertising, great content, blogging and resources etc – these will all help you generate more targeted traffic.
TIP: Set up a strategy that focuses on key goals that are monitored, so that continual improvement can be made to what you’re doing. For example, we will post 1 article a week that will also be shared on our social networks, we will send out one short newsletter monthly with the goal of getting 5 leads from this etc.
To help you get started with the simplest strategy, blogging, visit Digital Marketing’s ultimate list of blog post ideas and HubSpot's blog post templates.
Know who your ideal customer is, and offer them something of value so they part with their details. It doesn’t have to cost. Eg do up a ‘how-to’ guide that your customers would find useful ‘7 simple strategies to help you…’
TIP: If you want to take it further, I would encourage you to learn about Customer Value Optimisation.
The Customer Value Optimisation system is the same approach that McDonalds has used, and works for every size business. This system focuses on the only three key things that can really help you grow your business:
How will you stay connected with the people in your database? Or more importantly, those that sign up as part of your conversion strategy?
TIP: This could simply be a few automated emails that go out based on a set action, that educate and connect with your contacts.
A good approach is to think about the touch points in your business Eg: What is your sales process? What is your after sales process? Work out the steps involved in each of these touch points, then create a range of email messages that can be automated to educate and add value to your offerings.
For the most part, these strategies are simple - it just takes a bit of planning and time to put together these systems but once you do, they can really power up your business.
