Seen those black and white pixelated square barcodes that aren’t quite barcodes? That’s a QR Code. Maybe you’ve seen one on a brochure, shop poster, business card or in an advert in a magazine.

Basically, QR Codes allow users to interact online, with your offline marketing.

Things you can do with a QR Code using your smartphone

A user might scan your QR Code to:

  • Open to a specific page on your website we’re you’re featuring a promotion/event.
  • Get a coupon
  • Store a business card to their phone contact list
  • Add your event to their smartphone calendar
  • Open to your location on Google Maps
  • Call a phone number
  • Connect to your Facebook page or YouTube video
  • Open to a message
  • Connect to a wireless network

So are they worth it?

Australia is one of the top 5 users of QR Codes, worldwide (QRStuff.com), and while not everyone uses them, stats show that those that do, are continuing to use them.

They’re a great way to increase user interaction with your brand. You just have to be careful how you use them. Customers are scanning your QR Code because they’re expecting to get something of value in return. Don’t use it just to link to a digital copy of your business brochure.

Keep in mind if you’re wanting a QR Code to connect to a page on your website, make sure your site is mobile friendly.
